Karadzic after 12 years in "hiding"(!)

Karadzic and Mladic, his General, who is yet to be found, represent the hypocrisy of European "civilization". The one, for which, when asked what he thought of "Western Civilization", Ghandi had replied "That would be a good idea".

The West is no more civilized than the rest of the world. The West is only "rich", sitting on the wealth accumulated off the back of colonialism, violence, slavery, plundering and robbery, no different than most of such wealth accumulated.

After the disintegration of Yugoslavia, the European Christian world looked at it as another opportunity to rid the heart of the Christian World off the Muslim remnants of the Ottoman Empire, namely, Bosnians, Macedonians and Kosovons.

This extermination of the Muslim minority was supported by the Christian World openly, or clandestinely, or even in cowardly ways. The UN was used as a vehicle with its then Sec. Gen. Boutros Boutros-Ghali [1], a Christian Egyptian.

Under the UN supervision, Muslims throughout the form...

JURIST - Paper Chase: Israel justice minister calls for relaxation of religious marriages rules

Andrew Gilmore at 10:31 AM ET
[JURIST] Israel's Chief Rabbinate [official website, in Hebrew], the body that authorizes and conducts marriages in the country, should allow marriages between people of different religious faiths, Israeli Justice Minister Daniel Friedmann [official profile] said Sunday. The Chief Rabbinate currently requires all marriages to adhere to Orthodox Jewish law and traditionally does not allow members of different religious faiths to marry. Last Tuesday, former Chief Justice of the Israeli Supreme Court Aharon Barack [official profile] called on the Knesset [official website] to amend marriage laws [Ynetnews.com report] to provide Israeli citizens with a civil alternative to religious marriages. Ynetnews.com has more.

Considerable confusion exists over who qualifies for marriage in Israel due to controversies over conversion and the difficulties in establishing evidence of Jewish heritage among immigrants to Israel. Even converts to Orthodox Judaism can be denied ...

The Jonestown Massacre

Because "cults" are in the headlines again, I wanted to remind people about another suspenseful cult event: Jim Jones, the People's Temple, murder and mass killings, all taking place in "Guyana". Even Agatha Christie could not have come up with a darker mystery.
The first reports out of Guyana on November 18, 1978 were that Congressman Leo J. Ryan and four other members of his party were shot and killed as they attempted to board a plane at Port Kaituma airstrip. Within hours, came the shocking announcement that 408 American citizens had committed suicide at a communal village they had built in the jungle in Northwest Guyana. The community had come to be known as “Jonestown.” The dead were all members of a group known as “The People’s Temple” which was led by the Reverend Jim Jones. It would soon be learned that 913 of the 1100 people believed to have been at “Jonestown” at the time, had died in a mass suicide.

Today the shop is down to its last two months of stock and attracts only a handful of customers.Turkey's Islamist-rooted government has clamped down on the pork industry since 2004, closing all but two of the country's 25 pig farms and revoking slaughterhouse licenses.
It seemed to be going well for efforts to arrange a debate on science issues. The National Academies, the Council for Competitiveness and the AAAS had agreed to serve as official cosponsors; the plan was endorsed by all major research universities and scientific societies. However, in a world faced with the threat of global warming, dwindling fossil fuel, continuous warfare, disease and starvation on the rise in Africa, spiraling food prices world wide, the candidates must focus on "solutions." They have therefore chosen to attend "The Compassion Forum" instead, a "wide ranging and probing discussion of policies related to moral issues." It will be held at Messiah College somewhere in central Pennsylvania.
HTML Tutorial

HTML is a "language" to format web pages and to empower them to do "things". For example, one can make certain words
bold, or
big, or display an image from another web-site,
or re-size it
, etc.

HTML is surely a programming skill requiring dedicated study to claim proficiency. However, to "build" web paragraphs with some "features", such as those listed above, is well within the realm of "common" people, who may not have any background in "programming" or "computers".

The link above is a wonderful place for those who would like to invest a little time to enhance the appearance and functionality of their posts like this one.

MULTIPLY actually provides a "crude" HTML editor, but only for blog posts. At places like this (links, music, r), or in "replies", they only provide a box to type in plain, dull text.

However, all "other" posts and replies, unbeknownst to you, get treated as HTML code!

So, if you wished to add a reply which itself has a link, or an image, ...

I would not know how to translate it. If anyone can, I would be thankful.

The scholars say they are returning to the original values of Islam

Turkey is preparing to publish a document that represents a revolutionary
reinterpretation of Islam - and a controversial and radical modernisation of the
religion.

The country's powerful Department of Religious Affairs has
commissioned a team of theologians at Ankara University to carry out a
fundamental revision of the Hadith, the second most sacred text in Islam after
the Koran.

The Hadith is a collection of thousands of sayings reputed to
come from the Prophet Muhammad.

As such, it is the principal guide for Muslims in interpreting
the Koran and the source of the vast majority of Islamic law, or Sharia.

Natural History: The Amazing Horseshoe Crab

I watched a documentary about this creature on PBS. Like most of the documentaries by PBS, I was fascinated. This creature is older than almost all of the other creatures on earth: more than 450,000,000 years old..!

This ancient creature, it turns out, has remarkable features which we do not quite understand.

To me, a most amazing thing was that their blood is ... BLUE..! (makes one wonder if the aristocracy is related to it --blue blood).

That blue blood apparently is common among other mollusks as well, not that I had ever seen it before.

This creature is currently the backbone of all FDA tests, because its blood has a particular property of immediately surrounding a bacterium and forming a clot around it. In this era of "synthesizing" everything, mankind relies on a 450 million years old creature for a critical test on drugs !

They are one-by-one hand picked and then a lot of their blood is drained in a lab to make the test-chemical. The creature is then released...

Secularism and Religion: Can they co-exist?

In a recent post about the apparent conflict in the lifestyle of Turkish people, interesting views about Islam and secularism has been advocated.

If I understand correctly, the assertion is that "secularism is in the way of practicing Islam".

I might extend this conjecture and suggest that, as a corollary, secularism would also be in the way practicing Christianity and Judaism.

We know that Israel is not secular. One cannot be an Israeli citizen without embracing Judaism. Similar concepts used to be very common about Christianity in European countries. Islamic countries rely on a fundamental set of "laws" (sharia) derived from Koran to be the basis of all Jurisdiction.

There are also countries which have significant number of Muslims, or as in the cases of Tunis, Algiers, Libya and Turkey, which seem to have distanced themselves from sharia. In case of Turkey, its population is practically 99% Muslim (when you ask people what their religion is...) and its constitution and laws are 10...
